As a Dental Lab Technician, your job is to construct and repair full or partial dentures or dental appliances. You will fill orders from dentists for a variety of dental appliances. You’ll work with sophisticated equipment and a broad range of materials to create tooth replacements that look real and nice, and that also work properly. 

Where can you work? 

Commercial dental laboratories, private dental offices, hospitals, dental schools or with dental manufacturers and suppliers. 

What can you specialize in?

Dental lab technicians can specialize in one of five areas: Orthodontic appliances, crowns and bridges, complete dentures, partial dentures and ceramics.

As a Dental Lab Technician, you must expect to:

• Spend hours alone in the lab
• Work with potentially dangerous materials

As a Dental Lab Technician:

• You do not have to put your hands into a patient's mouth to work with their teeth
• You do not have to deal with many people - this is a good choice if you want to work in Dentistry but prefer to work indepedently 
• Once you have several years of experience, you could become self-employed and open your own office
• Compared to working as a Dentist, you have a more stable schedule (Monday to Friday, 40-hour week) 
• You may therefore balance your work and family/friends life
