What you do

As a Hospital Dietician, you design nutrition programs to improve or maintain the health of patients. These programs may be short
-term, for example to help a patient while he/she is healing after a car accident, or long-term, for a patient with diabetes.

The tough stuff

As a Hospital Dietician, you may have to:

  • Cope with sadness when your patients getting sicker or pass away
  • Deal with difficult patients who do not want to comply with their diet plans
The cool stuff

As a Hospital Dietician, you will get to:

  • Help your patients recover and/or maintain their health
Typical work hours
  • 35-40 hours per week
  • Limited Travel

As a Hospital Dietician, you mostly work regular hours at the hospital.

Education required
  • You need a Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or a related area to start your career as a Hospital Dietician. If you want to progress in this career, you should also get a more advanced degree, such as a Master’s degree, in a relevant subject area.

Biography

When Jinane was 15, she was a victim of anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder which was a life changing experience that defined her future. 

After finishing high school she decided to study nutrition and dietetics to educate herself and others about healthy eating. She has been doing it gladly since she graduated in 2011.
